Objective To investigate anxiety and depression conditions and the related factors in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. It would provide the foundation of interventions, and improve the level of mental health of ICU patients, promote their recover from illness.Methods During the12hours before they left ICU,108patients were enrolled to complete the questionnaires of the SAS, the SDS and the general data. The patients were selected from those were hospitalized in affiliated hospital of Qingdao university medical college ICU from September2010to June2011. The questionnares was used to get patients’ anxiety and depression conditions and their general status.Results①The mean anxiety scores of ICU patients was45.81±8.22, it was significantly higher than the normal samples(29.78±8.22), the difference was statistically significant. Patients those are female, without application of sedation and analgesia, feel lonely obviously for the abscence of relatives’accompany gained a higher score, the difference was statistically significant. As their ages, days in ICU, days of mechanical ventilation, numbers of pipe, severity of disease increased, the score increased, the rate of anxiety increased, the difference was statistically significant. Patients with different occupations gained different score, and their anxiety rate was different, the difference was statistically significant. The higher patients’educational level was, the higher score they gaied, but their rate of anxiety was not statistically significant. Free expression had no effect on anxiety score, but influent the anxiety rate. Medical insurence status had no effect on patients’ anxiety.②The mean depression scores of ICU patients on SDS was45.68±10.31, the level of anxiety was significantly higher than normal (41.88±10.57). Patients those are female, feel lonely obviously for the absence of relatives’ accompany gained a higher score, the depression rate was higher, the difference was statistically significant. As their ages, days in ICU, days of mechanical ventilation, numbers of pipe, severity of disease increased, the SDS score increased, the rate of depression increased. The difference was statistically significant. The depression level of patients with different occupations and medical insurance was significantly different, so was their depression rate. Groups by sedation and analgesia, free expression gained no significant difference in SDS score, but the depression rate was statistically significant.. There were significant difference in SDS score in groups by educational status, while difference in depression rate was not significant..Conclusion:A high level of anxiety and depression existed in ICU patients. Anxiety and depression conditions was related with patients’ gender, family members’ accompany, ages, days in ICU, days of mechanical ventilation, pipe numbers, educational status, severity of disease. Patients who are female, not adapt the absence of family members were more easily suffering from anxiety and depression. With the increase of ages, days in ICU, days of ventilation, pipe numbers, educational levels, severity of disease increased, anxiety and depression aggravated. Occupations affect patients’ anxiety and depression conditions.
