【Objective】Accumulated evidences demonstrate that some grow factors and their receptors are associated with carcinogenesis, development and prognosis of oral cancer. In this study, we examined expression of ebp1 in adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues to explore a relationship between ebp1 expression and ACC invasion, metastasis and clinic-pathologic characteristics, further investigate prognostic value of ebpl in predicting ACC patients survival.【Methods】Experimental specimens were collected by the department of stomatology in the Ninth People Hospital in Shanghai Jiaotong University from January 2007 to December 2007. Immunohistochemistry (PV6000 method) was used to detect expression of ebp1 in 35 paraffin-embedded adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues and matched para-cancerous normal tissues. In this study all cases were successfully followed up. The data was analyzed by SPSS 11.0 software.[Results There was a significant difference of the expression of ebpl between adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues and matched para-cancerous normal tissues. Compared with that in adenoid cystic carcinoma tissues, there was higher expression of ebpl in normal tissues. Expression of ebpl was significantly correlated to pathological pattern and clinical stage (P<0.05), not to gender and age (P>0.05). Expression of ebp1 in simple cribriform type ACC and cribriform-tubular type ACC was higher than that in necrosis type ACC. Moreover, expression of ebp1 in T1-T2 stage patients was significantly higher than that in T3-T4 stage patients (P<0.05). In addition, the 5-year survival rate of the patients with ebp1 expression was higher than that of patients with negative expression (P< 0.05).【Conclusion】The expression levels of ebpl was negatively corresponding with ACC malignant degree, which may be inhibit the malignant transformation of adenoid cystic cells. Ebp1 can be used as useful indicators for clinical assessment of tumor biological behavior and prognosis in patients with adenoid cystic carcinoma.
