ObjectiveLeading by the main clinical symptoms, the objective of this article is to get a comprehensive review of endometriosis in traditional Chinese medicine literatures, and then to analyze related directing factors of this disease and the medicines used in those literatures so as to provide instructions for modern research of endometriosis. Besides, this article also aims at offering guidance for the normalization and development of Dialectical treatment for endometriosis.ApproachesBy searching for related literatures in’Classical Chinese Medicine Code’, we summarized characteristic symptoms, directing factors and medicine used for the disease of endometriosis followed by database establishment through modern statistical analysis.Results1.Overall, the major syndrome factor is stasis, accounting for24.32%, followed by blood deficiency, accounting for14.41percent, stagnation (13.72%), deficiency (10.65%).2. Classification of syndrome factors in the nature of disease:the syndrome factors are mainly consisted of blood class, accounting for65.38percent, followed by six exogenous pathogenic factors and five pathogens, accounting for93.35%totally while others accounted for6.65%.3. Classification of syndrome factors in six exogenous pathogenic factors:pathogenic cold is the main factor accounting for57.49%, followed by pathogenic wind accounting for28.13%; then pathogenic wet is accounting for6.73%.4. Classification of syndrome factors in internal generation of five pathogens:the inner pathogenic cold is the main factor of five pathogens class, accounting for52.21percent, followed by an inner pathogenic fire, accounting for21.67%, and the inner pathogenic dry (13.79%).5. Classification of syndrome factors in qi and blood:stasis is the major syndrome factor, accounting for37.21%, followed by blood deficiency, accounting for22.03percent, stagnation (20.98%), deficiency (16.30%), which constitute the main part of this class.6. Target elements:uterus is the main target elements, accounting for21.45percent, followed by lower abdomen, accounting for20.60%, Chong and Ren, accounting for16.38%, kidney, accounting for14.02%, liver accounting for13.51%, spleen accounting for13.34%.7. Combination of the syndrome factors:combining elements of disease syndromes, stagnation with stasis accounted for the largest percent (12.54%), followed by qi and blood deficiency (12.04%), cold with blood stasis (10.13%), and another main combination of cold with stagnation, qi deficiency with stasis, stasis within inner cold, pathogenic cold and wind, pathogenic wind with blood deficiency, pathogenic wind with stasis, blood deficiency with blood stasis, qi deficiency with pathogenic cold are accounted for more than60%. Combining from another syndrome factor, the top three are stagnation with stasis and pathogenic cold(19times), qi and blood deficiency with stasis(25times) and cold with blood stasis combining pathogenic wind(23times).8. Combination of the syndrome factors from target elements:lower abdomen and blood stasis accounted for13.03%, uterus with stasis accounted for6.28%, lower abdomen with pathogenic cold accounted for4.27%, uterus with pathogenic cold accounted for3.91percent, lower abdomen and stagnation, uterus and blood deficiency both accounted for3.67%, liver blood deficiency accounted for3.44%, spleen deficiency, deficiency of Chong and Ren both accounted for3.20%, liver deficiency accounted for2.84%, uterus with inner cold, uterus and qi deficiency, liver with qi deficiency, spleen with blood stasis all accounted for2.73%; the spleen stagnation accounted for2.61%. The cumulative frequency for the combination of the above syndromes is more than60%.9.Various tapes of combinaions of the syndrome factors from target elements:in six exogenous pathogenic factors class, the main syndromes are lower abdomen with pathogenic cold, uterus with cold, cold with chong and ren, which appeared36times,33times,28times respectively; in five pathogens class, the inner cold is the most syndrome factor combining from the target elements, the top three of that are uteru(23times), lower abdomen(18times), and the Chong and Ren(16times); combination of qi and blood elements and targets, the lower abdomen with blood stasis, stasis of uterus, blood stasis in Chong and Ren, stagnation of liver, appeared110,53,35,35times respectively.10. Classification of drug efficacy:the blood-activating and stasis-eliminating drugs are the most frequently used and the most effective, accounting for25.37percent, followed by deficiency-nourishing drugs (24.03%), qi-regulating drugs(9.57%), inner-warming drugs (8.64%), dampness phlegm drugs (7.51%). The above five categories of drugs are accounted for75.12%totally.11. High frequency of drug:Chuanxiong, Corydalis, Curcuma, triangular, peach, Achyranthes, saffron, frankincense, myrrh, salvia are frequently used drugs for blood-activating and stasis-eliminating drugs; angelica, licorice, Atractylodes, white peony, ginseng, Rehmannia, Astragalus, yams, turtle shell, eucommia are used as deficiency-nourishing medicine drugs with high frequency. All in all frequently used drugs are Angelica, Chuanxiong, Corydalis, Cyperus rotundus, Poria, Licorice, Cinnamon, Atractylodes, Curcuma, white peony.12. Classification of drug efficacy abouti the treatment of endometriosis in Pro. Cheng Lan’s apartment:the blood-activating and stasis-eliminating drugs are the most frequently used and the most effective, followed by deficiency-nourishing drugs and qi-regulating drugs. The high frequency of drugs were angelica, Poria, Dan, Yimucao, peach, Cyperusrotundus, Corydalis, saffron, Atract ylodes, white peony, Chuanxiong, triangular, Curcuma.Conclusions1. Blood stasis is the basic syndrome factor of endometriosis;2. Pathogenic cold and inner cold are the main pathogenic factors of endometriosis.3. Qi and Blood disorders is the pathological basiss of endometriosis.4. Lower abdomen with blood stasis are the fundamental pathogenesis of endometriosis.5. The top three syndromes of endometriosis are stagnation with blood stasis, qi and blood deficiency with stasis, and pathogenic cold with stasis.6. Activating blood and eliminating stasis is the fundamental principle for the treatment of endometriosis; and more attention should be paid to tonifying deficiency and recovering of harmony among the kidney, liver and spleen, accompanied by removal of stagnation, cold and sputum.
