Objectives The aim of the present case-control study was to examine the changes ofserum uric acid (UA) level in female patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD).Patients and Methods we choose207female PD patients diagnosed in the secondaffiliated hospital of Soochow University and207healthy volunteers, age, sex, the timeblood took and HBP-matched. Divided all the people into two groups includingmiddle-aged group aged from45to59years old and old group aged from60to89. Weacquired their clinical history, did physical examination, H-Y scale and UPDRS test, measured serum UA and Scr level.Results1. UA level of the PD patient(259.2±75.5μmol/l)was significantly lowerthan the control in the old(276.8±58.98μmol/l,P=0.014), while the difference in themiddle-aged group was not obvious (P=0.252)2. The UA level of the old(276.8±58.98μmol/l)was obviously higher than the middle-aged group in the control(246.5±48.53μmol/l,P=0.004), UAbetween old PD patient (259.2±75.50μmol/l)andmiddle-aged patient (260.5±52.26μmol/l)were not obviously different(P=0.923).3.Inthe control, the UA level of people with hypertension (HBP)(283.0±57.19μmol/l) wassignificantly higher than people without HBP(264.7±58.12μmol/l,P=0.030),and it wasalso happened in PD group(P=0.002).4. UA level decreased followed with the severity ofH-Y and the increase of the UPDRS score, and the difference is statistically significant (P<0.05). UA level of severe PD group(216.6±76.35μmol/l)was lower than the mild group(270.0±69.22μmol/l,P <0.05),and PD patient with high UPDRS score(164.00±51.89μmol/l)had a lower UA level than the patient with low score(272.7±69.41μmol/l,P<0.05). Conclusion1. UA level declines significantly in the old female patient with PDcompared with the old control, while there is no obvious difference between middle-agedPD and control.2. The UA level of PD patient with HBP is significantly higher than patientwithout HBP.3. UA level of female PD patient is inversely correlated with the progressionof the disease degree. These results suggest that low serum UA level may be a biologicalcharacteristic of old female patient with PD, UA could be a promising biomarker of thedisease degree.
