Objective To explore the expression and clinical significance of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and microsomal prostaglandin E2synthase-1(mPGES-1) in clear cell renal cell carcinoma.Methods49cases of clear cell renal cell carcinoma tissues specimens and21cases of normal renal tissues specimens were used to detect the expression and the clinicopathological features of COX-2and mPGES-1in clear cell renal cell carcinoma by means of immunohistochemistry SP method. Results COX-2positive expression rate in normal renal tissue was4.8%. On the contrary, COX-2positive expression rate in clear cell renal cell carcinoma was53.1%(P<0.05). mPGES-1positive expression rate in normal renal tissue was4.8%. On the contrary, mPGES-1positive expression rate in clear cell renal cell carcinoma was40.8%(P<0.05). The overexpression of mPGES-1and COX-2was not correlated with the pathologic grading and clinical staging of clear cell renal cell carcinoma (P>0.05). The expression of COX-2was positively correlated with mPGES-1(P<0.05), r=0.5.Conclusion COX-2and mPGES-1might play crucial roles in the occurrence and development of clear cell renal cell carcinoma in common; COX-2and mPGES-1may be the novel therapeutic targets for treatment of clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
