The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) made great contributions to the survival and the reproduction of the Chinese nation, and is an effective and precious medical heritage shown by the history. TCM ancient documents (ancient medical literature) were our precious treasure inherited from the ancestor, and record the massive medical theories and abundant medical experiences and is expressed with the distinct characteristics of ancient Chinese. However, the traditional medical documents written in ancient Chinese are difficultly undersood by modern people because of the differences between the ancient Chinese and the modern Chinese, so that how to rapidly acquire required mediccal knowledge from the TCM documents has become one of the problems to be solved. With the development of computer and information science technology, how to develop TCM course and accelerate the modernization process of TCM through the modern information technology has already drawn people’s great attention. But the present text information retrieval technology mainly studies on the basis of modern Chinese text, and the retrieval research aming at the ancient Chinese literature is not common. Therefore, the retrieval technology research on the TCM ancient documents has certain practical value.Proved by study, the retrieval technology on modern literature cannot be effectviely applied to the ancient Chinese medical literatures so that this paper mainly contains:1 This paper proposes the sentence retrieval algorithm based on sentence similarity from the aspect of retrieval content correlation and solves the problem of cross text genre retrieval of ancient and modern literatures. Compared with the conventional retrieval algorithms, this algorithm can effectively improve the recall ratio proved by the experimental results of the contrast of the ancient and the modern versions of Huang Di Nei Jing.2 This paper introduces the quiz information retrieval idea into the Chinese medical knowledge retrieval, and carries out analysis and disease correlation by using the symptoms set as an input mode so that a retrieval system based on the disease treatment knowledge of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Dictionary and the Compendium of Materia Medica is formed. The experimental results shows that the system can be used for effectively inquiring diseases and treatment methods corresponding to symptoms.
