Objectives:The aim of the research was to investigate the prevalence of chronic diseasesand health-promoting lifestyle among elderly who residents in the nursing homesof Xi’an, and to explore the related risk factors of most prevalence chronicdiseases.Methods:1. The cross-sectional studyAll the people above60years were selected by cluster sampling andinvestigated by Health-promoting Lifestyle ProfileⅡ(HPLP-Ⅱ), the MedicalOutcomes Study36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (MOS SF-36) and healthstatus questionnaire. Data was analyzed by SPSS17.0software, and Chi-squaretest, t-test, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were used to describe the status ofchronic diseases and health-promoting Lifestyle.2. The matched case-control studyOn the foundation of the cross-sectional study, the case group was definedto all the elderly who had the most prevalence chronic diseases (hypertension). According to the one to one case-control principle, people who were the samegender, age year difference range less than two years, had chronic diseasesexcluding hypertension were served as control group. Data were analyzed bySPSS17.0, and then binary Logistic Regression and multinomial LogisticRegression were applied.Results:1. The prevalence of chronic diseases and health-promoting lifestyleThe prevalence rate of chronic diseases in the sample was80.56%,cardiovascular diseases especially hypertension were the most popular diseaseand the prevalence rates were53.6%and37.1%respectively, the mean score oflifestyle was15.03±17.54, and81.4%had unhealthy lifestyle,50.8%of the oldpeople’ quality of life were at a media level. Age group, gender, occupation,whether have income, month salary, whether join social insurance, whether havehobby, central obesity, nutrition and quality of life were found to be related tochronic diseases.2. Risk factors of hypertensionAccording to the matched case-control study, family history of hypertension,low score in physical activity, central obesity and smoking were concluded to bethe risk factors of hypertension, the OR and95%CI were2.562(95%CI=1.945~9.521),1.866(95%CI=1.346~5.167),1.735(95%CI=1.490~4.601) and1.616(95%CI=1.202~3.565) respectively.Conclusions:1. The prevalence of chronic diseases in nursing homes of Xi’an was at a highlevel, and seriously affect their health especially hypertension.2. Old people’ health-promoting lifestyle was at a low level. The elderly in thestudy were most frequently engaging in nutrition, and then followed by interpersonal relationship, stress management, self-realization and physicalactivity and least in health responsibility.3. Age group, gender, occupation, whether have income, month salary, whetherjoin social insurance, whether have hobby, central obesity, nutrition and qualityof life were found to be related to chronic diseases.4. Family history of hypertension, low score in physical activity, central obesityand smoking were concluded to be the risk factors of hypertension.
