ObjectiveFall and chronic diseases are both important health issues in the elderly.The purpose of this study is to arouse people's attention to falls and improve the quality of life of the elderly with chronic diseases by investigating the fall prevalence and analyzing the related risk factors of falls among elderly patients with chronic diseases in outpatients of an urban community health service center.MethodsA total of 326 subjects(aged over 60 years old)with chronic diseases in the general clinic of Tangqiao Community Health Service Center,Pudong New Area,Shanghai were collected from October 2018 to January 2019.According to the occurrence of falls in the past year,326 subjects were divided into non-falls group and falls group.The demographic characteristics,lifestyle,chronic disease,medication and functional assessment of the two groups were investigated by a standardized questionnaire.All data were statistically analyzed by SPSS 23.0.Results1.In this study,104 of 326 subjects had falls in the past year,accounting for 31.90% of the total number,including 42 males and 62 females.2.Univariate analysis showed that female,cerebral infarction,coronary heart disease(CHD),diabetes,cataract,deafness / tinnitus,osteoporosis,insomnia,anxiety or foot disease,chronic diseases(?3),drugs(?4),taking antidiabetic drugs or nitrates drugs,impaired daily living ability,cognitive dysfunction,Timed Up and Go Test time over 10 s,gait and balance dysfunction,and positive screening for sarcopenia are risk factors for falls,while regular exercise is the protective factor for falls.3.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the important risk factors for fall in elderly patients with chronic disease were female,cerebral infarction,diabetes,cataract,osteoporosis,anxiety or foot disease,drugs(?4),Timed Up and Go Test time over 10 s and positive screening for sarcopenia.Conclusion1.Falls are common in elderly patients with chronic diseases.The incidence of falls is significantly higher in females than that in males.2.The occurrence of falls is the result of a variety of factors,including biological,psychological,social and environmental aspects.Female,cerebral infarction,diabetes,cataract,osteoporosis,anxiety or foot disease,drugs(?4),Timed Up and Go Test time over 10 s and positive screening for sarcopenia are the important risk factors for falls in elderly patients with chronic diseases,while regular exercise is the protective factor for falls.
