Objectives: To compile the prevalence and factors of birth defects onhospitalized children of Pediatrics in our hospital and provide some examples forreducing birth defects.Methods: Data of birth defects of all hospitalized children of29015cases fromJanuary1,2001to December31,2010were reviewed. Types of birth defects andprenatal exposure to risk factors were retrospectively analyzed.Results: The prevalence rate of birth defects on hospitalized children over thepast10years was l6.41per l000(476/29015).Compared with the the past6yearsbefore(from2001to2006), the prevalence rates of the last4years(from2007to2010) Significantly increased and showed an increasing trend year by year, whichwas significance(χ2=26.30,P<0.05).The risk factors influencing the incidence ofbirth defects were the age of parturient under20and over35,preterm birth(birth lessthan37weeks after conception),sick in early pregnancy,taking medicine in earlypregnancy, spontaneous abortion, current family history of congenital defect,but theprevalence rates were no significance between urban and suburb and between maleand female(P>0.05).Congenital heart diseases were the most common types of birthdefects.The major disease of birth defects is Congenital heart defects,Down Syndrome,Congenital hydrocephalus,cleft lip and palate,anal atresia(narrow)in the region.Conclusion: The surveillance and intervention program of birth defects andtertiary prevention measures shall be performed vigorously to decrease preference ofbirth defects and improve the quality of biths in China....
