In this experiment, pigeon, as the object, was researched. Collect the medulla of feather, which belonged to three breeds of pigeons, using Phenol/Chloroform method to distill the genome DNA, as template of PCR. According to the MDH and LDHC sequences of pigeon and chicken in Genebank, we designed several pairs of primers for PCR. The single nucleotide polymorphisms of pigeon’s MDH and LDHC gene were detected by PCR-SSCP method, and then analyzed the different gene frequency and genotype frequency of MDH and LDHC gene separately with SPSS software, finding the correlation between genetic polymorphisms of MDH and LDHC gene and growth and breeding trait of pigeon. The results showed that:1. There was significant difference on weight and body target between carrier pigeon and meat pigeon (P<0.05), Meat pigeon being was better than carrier pigeon. There was significant difference on laying performance between Columba and Tai Ping pigeon (P<0.05). The annual mean laying eggs of Tai Ping pigeon was21.265,1.4eggs more than Columba. Average laying interval of Tai Ping pigeon was30.964days,2.4days shorter than Columba. There was significant difference on fertility rate and breeding rate between two breeds of meat pigeon (P<0.05), Columba being better than Tai Ping pigeon.2. Polymorphisms were not found in exon-1, exon-2, exon-3, exon-5, exon-9, exon-12, exon-13, exon-15of MDH gene.3. A single nucleotide substitution of A to G was found in LDHC exon-6, corresponding two genotypes, as AA and AB. There was no significant difference on Columba’s body target and Tai Ping pigeon’s weight and body target between these two genotypes(P>0.05). There was significant difference on Columba’s weight, breeding rate, annual mean laying eggs and average laying interval between AA and AB genotype (P O.05). There was significant difference on Tai Ping pigeon’s fertility rate between AA and AB genotype (P<0.05). In the two breeds of meat pigeon, AA genotype’s laying performance was higher than AB genotype’s. AA genotype was advantageous genotype for laying performance.
