Chinese chive is native to China, because of its nutrient-rich and medicine value aredeeply loved. With the development of the living standard of the people, the market both athome and abroad demand for Chinese chive is increasing and makes greater demands of itsquality and safety. Thus it is necessary to adopt appropriate measures to increased yield andquality of Chinese chive. The purpose of this study is using the light quality control technique,to explore the influence of different light quality on the physiological characteristics andquality of Chinese chive. Different light quality were gained by artificial regulate, on the basisof testing results selecte the best light quality for Chinese chive. And the result provides thetheory basis for the using of LED and light conversion films, artificial light supplement andartificial light sources.Taking“791”and “Purple-root” Chinese chive as material, cultured them in differentenvironment of light quality, the four treatments included red light, bule light, red/blue(3/1)light and red/blue(7/1) light generated by light-emitting diode were applied, and white lightgenerated by fluorescent lamps was used as control. The effects of different light qualities onphysiological characteristics and quality of Chinese chive were studied. The results showedthat:1. Effects of different light qualities on growth and physiological characterstics ofChinese chive were significantly different. The blade width, value of dry weight to freshweight and root activity were the highest under red/blue(7/1)light, the stem diameter andtiller number were the highest under red linght. The photosynthetic rate(Pn),stomatalconductance(Gs),transpiration rate(E),maximal photochemical efficienty of PSⅡ(Fv/Fm)and Fv/Fo were biggest under red/blue(7/1)light.Whereas intercellular CO2concentration(Ci),quantum yield of PSⅡ(ФPSⅡ)and value of qP were highest under blue light. It isconclude that the Pn of Chinese chive were significantly increased under red/blue(7/1)light,thus the plant growth and yield were also significantly increased. The leaves’ activity of the SOD and APX were the highest under red light, and the lowestunder red/blue(3/1)light. The activity of the POD were the highest under red/blue(7/1)light,and the lowest under blue light. Compared with controls, the treatments were reduced theactivity of the CAT. The difference of POD activity among the treatments were not significantly, it suggested that the light quality had little effect on POD activity.2. The effect of different light quality on the pigments in Chinese chive were significant. The contents of chlorophyll(a+b),carotenoid and chlorophyll(a/b)ratio were highest underred light treatment, it is concluded that the red light is propitious to the accumulation ofphotosynthetic pigments. Red/blue(7/1)light had the superiority in promoting the content offlavonoids, red/blue(7/1)light and red/blue(3/1)was in favor of flavonoids biosynthesis andflavonoids biosynthesis was inhabited under red light and blue light.3. Light qualities had great effects on nutritional quality of Chinese chive. The contentsof soluble sugar and crude fibre were the highest under red light among the treatments, andsignificantly higher than that of control, whereas the vitamin C (Vc) content, soluble proteinand nitrate content were the lowest. The contents of the vitamin C (Vc) content, free aminoacid and nitrate content were the highest under the blue light treatment. The soluble proteinwas significantly increased under red/blue(3/1)light. It suggested that the red light increasethe content of soluble sugar, but not propitious to the accumulation of soluble protein and Vc;and the blue light has the opposite effects.4. Effects of different light qualities on nutrient elements were significantly different.Red, red/blue(3/1)and red/blue(7/1)were in favor of promoting the contents of total N inChinese chive. The contents of total P and K were the highest under blue light, it showed thatblue light was propitious to the absorption and accumulation of P and K. Red, red/blue(3/1)and red/blue(7/1)were increase the contents of Ca and Zn in Chinese chive, and the effect ofred light was most significant. The absorption and accumulation of Mg were inhabited underred, blue, red/blue(3/1)and red/blue(7/1)light.
