Angelica is the root of Angelica sinensis (Oliv) Diels, a herbaceous perennial plant belongs to the Umbellfrae Family. With the efficacy of enriching blood, emmenagogue, acesodyne and lenitive, Angelica is used frequently in clinics. After processed, the composition and pharmacological function of Angelica was changed. There were different processing methods and different processed products in Traditional Chinese Medical (Veterinary) history. The common processed products of Angelica at present are raw Angelica, wine-broiled Angelica, Foci subsoil-broiled Angelica, oil-broiled Angelica and carbonized Angelica. The polysaccharide content of the processed products was measured to study the effects on polysaccharide content after processing. The blood physiological indicator, volume of hemopoietic tissues and hematopoietic growth factor of the anemia chickens are determined to evaluate the hemopoiesis function of the five processed products. Angelica polysaccharide is the active composition of Angelica that play a role in the function of hematonic. Further research was taken to investigate the effects of APS on hemopoietic progenitor cells proliferation and erythrocyte immunity. The polysaccharide of five processed produces of Angelica was separated by ethanol extraction method, and then their contents were assayed by sulfuric acid-anthrone colorimetry method and accounted. By the celiac Injection of cyclophosphamide, the anemia chickens was made and drenched with the decoction of the five processed products of Angelica mentioned above. The blood samples of each group were collected to determine RBC, Hb, PCV,the dropping rate of blood cells and other blood physiological indicators; The number of megakaryocytic in bone marrow tissue was counted, the volume of hemopoietic tissues and other index were determined; EPO and IL-3 were detected by ELISA method. These indices are used to evaluate the Hemopoiesis of different processed products of Angelica. In order to observe Angelica polysaccharide (APS) and serum with APS on the proliferation of CFU-E, BFU-E, CFU-GM, the technique of ectogenetic semi-solid culture medium of bone marrow hemopoietic progenitor cells was used. In order to investigate the effects of APS on erythrocyte immunity, the normal chickens and anemia chickens were drenched with different dosages of APS, then RBC-CR1 and RBC-IC were measured. The results indicated that, the order of Angelica polysaccharide contents of processed products was wine-broiled Angelica > oil-broiled Angelica > raw Angelica > Foci subsoil-broiled Angelica > carbonized Angelica. Every processed product of Angelica could notably increase RBC, Hb, PCV, cells and contents of EPO, IL-3 in serum of anemia chicken and decrease the dropping rate of blood, specially the oil-broiled and wine-broiled Angelica; It can also increase the volume of hemopoietic tissues and other indices. APS could protect the anemia chicken from RBC-CR1 descent and RBC-IC rising by cyclophosphamide, and restore them to the normal. Serum with APS could notably facilitate the proliferation of CFU-E, BFU-E and CFU-GM, but APS without serum could not promote the proliferation of CFU-E, BFU-E and CFU-GM.All of these five processed Angelica could strengthen the hemopoiesis functions inhibited by cyclophosphamide , and the effect correlates with the content of the processed products. APS has the obvious proliferation on hemopoietic progenitor cells of bone marrow, and enhance the erythrocyte immunity inhibited by cyclophosphamide.
