A Study On The Guidelines Of The Public Exterior Space Of Building

Urban public spaces can hardly meet the people’s daily needs, urban space environments arenot friendly to people and the walking environments of the city is poor. In order to solve thesethree problems our city meets, leading to the concept of the public exterior space of building.The public exterior space of building is a kind of public space which is located in the buildingproperty line but sharing the use-right of the space with people, permitting people to access,stay, do some leisure activities or social interactions.First of all, the paper does some further research on the public exterior space of buildingbased on present studies, including defines the public exterior space of building, pinpoints thelocation of the public exterior space of building and analyses the characteristics, theoutstanding qualities and the functions of the public exterior space of building.Then, by contrasting and analysing the practice experiences at home and aborad, points outthe problems existed in the practice of making the exterior space of building being publicspace at this stage in our country, which are the practice of making the exterior space ofbuilding being public space can hardly get start, the scope of the practice of making theexterior space of building being public space can hardly be expanded and the result of thepractice of making the exterior space of building being public space can hardly be maintainedfor long. After that, gives a suggestion that solving these problems on macro level.By doing research on guidelines, this paper suggests that taking guidelines as a tool to doingthe practice of making the exterior space of building being public space. And then discussesthe feasibility of making the exterior space of building being public space though guidelines,points out that the guidelines can not only solve the problems that existed in the practice ofmaking the exterior space of building being public space, but also provide additional benefitsfor the practice of making the exterior space of building being public space.At last, the paper takes the central area of Beijing CBD guidelines as an example todemonstrate how to make the exterior space of building being public space though guidelines.Points out some objects, measures and angles which can be applied to guidelines and arerelated to the public exterior space of building at the same time for reference.
