In recent years, related departments’requirement of both train’s safe operation and train’s repairing are rising with the speed raising of the railway in our country. As one of the most important part of the train, rail wheel is always under the circumstance of high stress motion, the friction caused by the contact of wheel and railway can lead to the rail wheel’s wear. The friction of the wheel system can not be ignored, it affect the train’s safe operation and also affect the life of rail wheel and the cost of train’s operation.Up until now, rail wheel’s detection in our country mainly depends on traditional manual detection. And this method which is based on a transverse and section curve of the wheel flange and tread not only needs high labor intensity but also is partial and can be affected by human factors, trouble location, working condition, climate and detection time. It is hard to have a full detection and repairing and can severely affect train’s safe operation using this method. In addition, this method can bring returned products because of over lathing or less lathing of rail wheel. To overcome the disadvantages of the traditional detection methods, in this paper, computer aided detection and reverse engineering technology are used to detecting3D parameters of the rail wheel. The best lathing program is made according to the wheel repair specification, and the detection and repair of rail wheel are unified. This provides new methods and ideas for precision detection and economical lathing of rail wheel.
