At present, the construction industry has entered a rapid development period. Tower cranes have been widely used in building construction because of its higher lifting height, larger working range and smaller occupation of land. At the same time, accidents related to tower crane happened continuously. The cause of the accident differs from one another. In order to improve the operator’s proficiency of operating and ability of repair, the simulated operation and fault reappearance system for tower cranes was designed in this paper, and the modern science and technology was applied to the tower crane training, the efficiency and safety of the training was improved, the comprehensive quality of the operator was further improved.The simulated operation and fault reappearance system for tower cranes was studied in this paper and a set of hardware equipment was designed based on the tower crane virtual scene. The hardware equipment consisted of linkage console, control cabinet, data acquisition board and fault. It was a good cohesion between the equipment and the tower crane virtual scene. It enhanced the operator’s sense of reality and immersive in the training process. The main research contents are as follows:(1) By analyzing the tower crane simulated operation and fault reappearance system, and the type of the tower crane was determined. A set of control cabinet that could realize the motion of the tower crane was designed according to the functions of the tower crane. The control cabinet included start-up, hoisting, slewing and derricking circuit. At the same time, The circuit using relay as the main device was designed by analyzing the characteristics of the interface circuit between the linkage control console and acquisition boards.(2) In order to realize the communication between the simulated operation and fault reappearance system for tower cranes and virtual scene, a board based on the STM32controller was designed by analyzing the characteristics of the linkage control console and acquisition boards. The board consisted of hardware and software design. The hardware included minimum start-up circuit of STM32controller and USB communication interface circuit. In the design of the software, the paper used the standard peripherals library and USB firmware library. The board had the advantages of generality, simple connection, simple circuit and low cost because of using the USB protocol.(3) The common faults of tower cranes were analyzed. The method to simulate faults was determined. Then, the faults of start-up, hoisting, slewing and derricking circuit were designed. Finally, the fault reappearance was perfectly realized.The real control cabinet and the linkage control console were used in this system, the operator’s sense of reality and immersive was enhanced, and the operating condition of tower cranes was simulated better. In order to improve the operator’s ability to repair faults, the fault reappearance was designed in this system according to the common fault of tower cranes. It greatly improved the operator’s comprehensive quality of operating.
