Diagram is the main discussion topic and the design instrument of the contemporary architecture. The text begins with analyzing the concept of diagram, expounding the evolution of the diagram from the static analytical device to the dynamic generative device. After the basic cognitive of diagram, further study of the characteristics and operation mechanism of the diagram generation was made combined with the case diagram operation, attempting to summarize the use of diagram in practice. The text will discuss dynamic diagram with the generative function. What is called the dynamics is related to the static analytical diagram. The static analytical diagram is as ancient as the architectural history, which is applied to the geometric research or form analysis. During the last30years in the twentieth century, Eisenman’s "Automatism" and Koolhaas’s "sociology statistics" study developed the generative function of diagram. The diagram becomes the best weapon of getting away with reappearance. In the late twentieth century, benefiting from the involvement of computer technology and the diagrammatic philosophy by Deleuze, the theory and practice of diagram develops rapidly. As an "abstract machine", diagram can input the content that can be dictated and at the same time can output the invisible form, which is applied to the architectural design and has the function of generating new form. More and more architects of the new generation who carry out personal explorations are dedicated to the diagram. The innovative significance of diagrammatic design is revealed.Based on the research of the conception and the evolvement of diagram, the author divides the dynamic generative diagram into three aspects according to the operating characteristics of leading architects. They are digital transformation, Information transcription and intervention translation. By selecting the cases of diagrammatic practice, the process of the dynamic generation is further studied. As a result, we get practical inspiration. In the end, the text summarizes the methods of diagrammatic design. The author thinks that the diagram is not the almighty instrument, but its inner thinking and logical methods promote the design innovation. In addition, the diagram provides strong supports for the development of architecture in the Information Age.There are about50000words and83pictures in the whole text.
