Because of constraints of span and technic, the structure play a leading role in the largespan architectural design. It is related to the creation of architectural space, the shape of theexterior of the building and construction emotional expression.As an important structure form of structures, cable structure should be fully understoodin its morphology, the construction of methods and artistic features by architects. And uesthem in the creation of large large-span building. In architect’s this article aims to analyzethe application and tectonic of cable structure in large-span building and research artisticexpression of structure.Firstly, the mechanical nature of the cable structure is analysised to explore the basicform of the cable structure and spatial characteristics and how to select the basic form in thearchitectural design. Cable structure architectural form is created by structure constructionand artistic appearance of architects based on the basic form prototype. The reasions fordevelopment of the cable structure are summed by analysising of the development andevolution of the cable structure. Study of the success engineering examples,applicationmethods and aesthetic characteristics of the cable structure be explored.Aaccording to the structural characteristics and morphological characteristics of thecable structure, this papers gives the construction principles of the cable structure and threesuitable tectonic methods,structure combination method, the motif method and bionicmethod. Propose three aspects of aesthetic tendencies of the cable structure in artisticexpression. Discusse influencing factors in artistic expression of cable structures,the artisticexpression of each component of the cable structure and material and detail node carved.Research how to achieve structural artistic expression in view of the three aspects which arestructural components, materials, and the detail node.In short, the paper focuses on applications of cable structure in the large-span building,and how to implement artistic expression of the structure; looking for a integration point ofstructure and architecture in the research process, and ultimately achieving purpose ofstructure artistic appearance in the large span building. The same time, structure form andperformance-related design concept and aesthetic principles are discussed with analysis andargumentation of typical examples, and strives to obtain a relatively complete theoreticalsystem for artistic expression of the cable structure building.
