With the development of the society, a variety of the Chinese universities have founded a number of popular majors, including art and design. Lots of colleges and universities also explore the direction of the major of art and design constantly. Due to the amalgamation of the universities, the comprehensive universities have various subjects and also have inclusivity. Furthermore the direction of the major of art and design is very clear. Besides, the comprehensive universities will train the students comprehensively in order to meet the demand of society. On the other hand, the major of art and design which is the key major in professional institutions of arts, is developing very fast with the support of school and society. The professional institutions of arts control the human and social resources which are keys to success in this area. These two types of universities both are in an easy way to development. The design of the teaching space need be planned by following the characteristic of the subject. For the universities of science and technology, the design of the teaching space is a new subject. While lack of resource and experience may impede their smooth development, the universities of science and technology take advantage of their technologies which the other universities don’t have.Nevertheless, the expansion of enrollment continuously in universities and the tension of building lands will be the key problems which the contraction need to solve. How to make the space more effective, how to make the interior design is no longer confined to the design of architectural form and a single function, teaching space more humanity, flexible and reasonable for teachers and students, feel the beauty of the space, leisure, the versatility and to stimulate students’creative passion.From the art and design development and architectural design humanity, multi-functional development perspective, build the theoretical framework of art and design teaching space ambiguity design. Analysis of teaching philosophy, behavioral characteristics, for the crowd psychological characteristics, development status, propose a request of promote teaching space more deep-level, multi-faceted. After criticizing of the first function theory, the construction industry is also exploring the way of combine function and aesthetics.On the basis of that, propose the principles and methods of spatial ambiguity design of art design. Combined with the development of science and engineering colleges and ambiguity design methods, explore design concepts and methods of the art design teaching space suitable for science and engineering colleges.
