In recent years, due to the world energy situation and environmental issues, new energy, especially solar energy and wind energy get a rapid development and the small wind and solar systems are increasingly applied to people’s daily lives. However, the power generation efficiency has been an important factor restricting the development of either small-scale photovoltaic power generation system nor small wind power system, so it is great significance for the small wind and solar power generation system to do efficiency improvement research. According to the two parts of the system, The main method to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic power generation is maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technology and light tracking technology. To improve the efficiency of wind power, we must solve the problem of matching of the wind turbine and generator.To improve the efficiency of the PV system, the paper introduces the working principle of the photovoltaic panels and circuit model, models the photovoltaic cells on physical model and the external model modeling photovoltaic cells, and then obtain the output characteristics of the photovoltaic cells, analyzes the effect of light and temperature on the output of photovoltaic cells. We found suitable method called the dual line fitting (DLF) MPPT method for small-scale photovoltaic power generation system after introducing of the principle of maximum power point tracking of photovoltaic cells. DC/DC circuit is designed for maximum power point tracking system, experimental study is done on DLF MPPT method to enhance the efficiency of photovoltaic power generation.Then the commonly used light tracking system on photovoltaic power system is introduced. The specific design procession taking the detection comparator method single-axis tracking of small-scale photovoltaic systems is shown, and finally the experiment on the light tracking PV system and directed photovoltaic systems is done to test improvement of the efficiency of the light tracking system.For small wind power system, research on the output characteristics of small wind turbine and the output characteristics of a small permanent magnet generator is carried. Then the paper analyzes and discusses the matching method of wind turbine and generator power and put forward the PWM power control method for small-scale wind power generation. Finally, the experiment of verification has been completed. The paper provides the specific methods and designs to improve the generation efficiency of the small-scale photovoltaic and wind power system and has important reference value on the practical application.
