Since the reform and opening up, especially after entering the21st century, China’s market economy is booming and the modernization process is accelerate rapidly. And the number and size of the construction, chemical, electric power, energy and other projects in the field are growing at the same time. But in this project, most of the necessary equipments are large in size, complex shape, expensive and high precision. The weight of single equipment is from dozens to hundreds of tons, and even thousands of tons, which has high requirements on the quality and transport technology of transport. These large-scale equipments should be transported to the destination from suppliers or the ports within the specified time. Whether the bulky equipment can be transported to the destination safely is the key issue to complete the project on time and on amount or not, and can also affect the healthy development of the national economy as a whole. Therefore, how to carry on the safety comprehensive evaluation scientifically and rationally to ensure the safety of the bulky cargo transportation is an important problem. The development and the research situation of the safety evaluation in the country and overseas is analyzed focus on the safety evaluation of the bulky cargo transportation by studying on the numerous literatures. And the background, significance and purpose of the research were described. The theoretical knowledge of bulky goods, bulky cargo transportation and safety evaluation were simply elaborated, which has laid a solid foundation for the safety evaluation of subsequent Bulky goods road transportation. The impact factors of transport safety for bulky goods were analyzed in details, and the safety evaluation index system of Bulky goods road transportation is established. The weight of each index in the safety evaluation index system is determined by using AHP, and the safety of the bulky goods road transportation is evaluated by the method of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation. Furthermore, an instance is cited in details to analyze and research the safety evaluation.
