It has been a long history that steam turbine is used to provide driving force of ships. The steam turbine possesses advantages including high power, low cost, rich experience of manufacturing and operating. In the1960s, steam turbine was used as the active force equipment of the first-generation LNG transport ships. Currently, steam turbine device is mainly applied on LNG Carrier ships. Recent years, the increase of LNG demand makes a significant acceleration influence on the development of our nation’s LNG transport ship. In order to guarantee the safety of shipping business, it is of great importance to strengthen trainings for marine engine management personnel and improve their operation and management skills. It is necessary to providing marine engineers more real and vivid trainings through developing Marine Engine Room Simulator system which possesses better effects and can be more conveniently used as well maintained. Such system is helpful to the achievement of more real and vivid training effects. Developing such a system to train marine engineers has become one of the hot research issues for modern maritime institutes.The research object of the present research is the marine steam turbine of "Dapeng Moon" ship, the first LNG Carrier established by Hudong-Zhong Shipbuilding (Group) Co., Ltd. The research will establish a mathematical model of the marine steam turbine and conduct a simulated analysis of the marine steam turbine. Then, the present research will develop a virtual simulation system of the marine steam turbine with the virtual reality technology. In the first place, the present research will analyze and introduce the structural composition and operating principles of the marine steam turbine; secondly, the research will divide the marine steam turbine into several modules and establish mathematical models respectively for regulating stage, non-regulating stage and communicating pipes etc. After combining all parts, the research will establish mathematical models for high pressure turbine, low pressure turbine and backing turbine. On the basis of the established mathematical models, the research will conducts simulation analysis of all parts of the turbine by making use of the Simulink assembly of Matlab simulation software so as to make it meet the requirements of the Convention.After obtaining the mathematical models meeting the requirements, the research will make use of3ds Max modeling software to establish the3D model of the steam turbine and construct the virtual scene. After that, the research will add texture to the3D model and render optimizing process. After obtaining satisfactory3D model, the3D model will be exported as.X file. Then, the.X file will be guided into the XNA3D engine to realize the virtual wandering and virtual operation of steam turbine system. The research will write programs with C#programming language and combine the established mathematical models and3D models, so as to accomplish the realization of the steam turbine virtual reality simulation system as well as lays a foundation for the interactive development of3D simulator and2D simulator.The research results realize the dynamic display of steam turbine operation parameters in3D simulator, which will provide some references for the successful development of virtual reality technology in LNG marine engine simulators.
