VANET is the extension of the development of point of wireless communication in vehicle communications, the earliest study of vehicle based on communication began in the nineteen eighties early Japanese, is a promising method. VANET vehicular ad hoc network, is a kind of wireless communication network based on distributed between vehicles, it inherits the multi-hop, Ad hoc network without center and self-organizing. So it is also called self-organizing traffic information system. In the VANET study, standardization and development has become an active area, because it has great potential, improve the vehicle and road traffic safety, improve traffic efficiency, convenience and comfort of drivers and passengers. VANET is a wireless distributed structure, nodes with fast moving, the topological structure of network is also in constant change, emphasizing the multi-hop, no organization, no center, flexible benefit management features.This paper firstly introduces the origin of Ad hoc network VANET network, and has carried on the analysis and introduction of related knowledge; and then for VANET network to introduce related knowledge including communication mode, characteristics and application; then shared some of some of the current VANET routing protocol; The present study of vehicular ad hoc networks are mostly based on communication between point-to-point, point to point communication is constantly changing, the network structure is unstable, the communication distance when the point-to-point communication range is exceeded, packets will be lost, the information can not be timely sent or access to information is not in the most up-to-date and accurate information thus, real effect of road, leads people to use false information and make wrong judgments and decisions. And currently on the market most has been sold in the navigation products are the shortest path method based on minimum charge of finding just finished vehicle self-organizing network in the commercial application on the part of function. Ways to meet people travel demand by far, can choose paths as short as possible and to ensure smooth communication, is the research direction of this thesis.
