Optical wireless links for intra-satellite communications (OWLS), which use the infrared light or the wireless RF (Radio Frequency) instead of the traditional data cables, is a new technology based on space environment of satellite, to lighten satellite load. Optical Wireless Controller Area Network (CAN) Bus for Intra-Satellite Communications is one of the hotspots of research of Optical Wireless in Optical wireless research, which is using the infrared light as transmission medium, replacing the physical layer of CAN bus. The main advantages of optical Wireless CAN Bus for Intra-Satellite Communications is the application of CAN. Meanwhile, there are many advantages of CAN bus, such as high transmission rate, multiple transports, excellent anti-interference capability, and various testing methods, etc.Because of the narrow environment, numerous payloads, and concentrated components in satellite, high demand for module of miniaturization and light has been raised. Therefore it is necessary to compact each module without decreasing their working performances to improve the space utilization on unit volume.For these considerations, this paper puts forward research and design of miniaturization for infrared light based CAN Bus module.In this work, the Optical wireless links for intra-satellite networks have been introduced and the application object of CAN bus is clear and definitely, then CAN bus treaty has been defined by corresponding ISO model, which has introduced how physical layer and data link layer (DLL) work respectively. The functions of the infrared transceiver module and CAN communication module have been introduced in the third chapter. In the fourth chapter, design and research on the wireless light CAN bus module miniaturization have been done on the basis of CAN bus module and infrared transceiver module. The CAN communication module, level conversion module, and infrared transceiver module have been integrated in one chip. The validity of the miniaturization design of wireless optical CAN bus module has been tested.Finally, the work of research is summarized, and further activities of optical Wireless CAN Bus module for Intra-Satellite Communications are discussed.
