The Subsea Variable Structural Diamond Saw is a mechanical cold working machineused in the underwater cutting process. This machine which can be widely used in thepractical engineering projects has many advantages compared with other subsea equipments,such as better adaptation, wide working range, the reliable ability of cutting metal, nonmetaland composite materials, and high made cost performance, etc.This project is supported by the subproject “Underwater Special Machinery Equipments”of “Resource and Environment Technology” which belongs to the national “863” importantproject. Based on the previous researching, this project is aimed to investigate how to improvethe working efficiency by choosing different cutters to work on the different types ofcomposite material oil pipelines.This paper describes the domestic and international development condition of theunderwater cutting processing and subsea diamond saw technology. The total design plan isproposed and argued by analysis of the design task and information. The main mechanicalstructure of Subsea Variable Structural Diamond Saw composes the clamping device, toolsreplacement device, tangential-feed attachment and cutting tools device. These structuralcharacters are analyzed and researched on their specialization.Additionally, this paper also designs the Subsea Variable Structural Diamond Sawhydraulic transmission control system. The hydraulic motor of the cutting tools device whichuses the electro hydraulic proportional flow valve to achieve the speed closed-loop control isan exact example to present the principle of this hydraulic transmission control system. Themathematical physical simulation model is built by Simulink-SimHydraulics module ofMATLAB software to analyze its dynamic response characteristics.Finally, the sensing test system of the Subsea Variable Structural Diamond Saw, whichcontains the required sensors, signal communication system, automatic process control systemand PC man-machine operation system, is designed based on the task requirement and actualworking condition. This whole automatic control system can fulfill the practical projectrequirement.
