As a new type of broadband passive against materials, the foam has high attenuation performance to the infrared, visible light, laser and millimeter wave. So it is a good application in military field.This paper studied the attenuation and masking mechanism of foam towards electromagnetic wave and the characteristics of infrared radiation to tank. Temperature models of vent, tracks and gun barrel of tank were established and the stable temperatures of motion and shooting processes were also calculated. Transmissivity model that means the infrared radiation transit through the foam layers was set up using the attenuation property of foam and the heat balance equations. Figures which were drawn using matlab software were compared with the experimental results, as the depth of foam reach25cm,the Transmission rate of tank Infrared radiation is near to0,rand consistent conclusion was found.In order to prevent the threaten of lasers and MMW guided missiles, the attenuation models of lasers and MMW guided missiles in the foam layers were analyzed. In the set up process of the model, the work mechanism of the detecting of laser guide and MMW guide were studied and the attenuation processes of the two in normal atmosphere were also analyzed. If the model is used in the battle field, when the tank is warned being attacked by missiles, foam layers will be discharged to interfere the signals and cover the tank. The mathematic models including tank, foam, missiles and atmosphere conditions was set up using matlab software and simulation analysis were done. The results showed that the discharge of foam by tank had done good job in the interfering and covering processes and the missiles finally lost their objects.Because the discharge device for foam was still under study, and the interfering towards missiles by foam layers was also investigated theoretically, this paper combined the two together in the theoretical view and made some contribution to the appliance of this technology in military fields.
