Since the implementation of the reforming and opening-up policy more than30years ago, there have been significant achievements in the social and economic development in China. In terms of the urbanization during the modernization process, the urbanization level has reached more than50%in China. However, traditional dwellings, historic districts and even cultural relics have been deemed as the stumbling blocks in the social and economic development. The speeding up of the urbanization process and the intention of creating "brand-new images" have resulted in stereotyped urban spaces following the same pattern. In the past couple years, destroy of cultural heritage has often been reported in the media. Some cities have torn down historical relics and cultural heritages for real estate development and the losses are impossible to quantify; and some cities even ruin historic and cultural relics for economic benefits..Historical buildings are carriers of civilization, outcomes of accumulation of human history and culture, and important urban cultural characters, which keep the collective memory of human kind. The cultural heritage protection of a nation or a city is essential for keeping the historical memory and understanding. Historical buildings from different times are in our real life. How should we look upon and treat such buildings? Should we respect the life cycle of historical buildings, perform just reasonable and suitable reconstructions, and make them reusable, sustainable and respectable? Or should we just sit by and let them fall into decay or be torn down? Different attitudes are the prime determinant on whether this type of building will be reserved and how their future will be.
