The operation data of10kV distribution line in a certain area in Pearl River Delta shows thatlightning accidents of10kV distribution lines occur frequently, which harms power supplyreliability and power system security of Distribution Network and influences people’s productionand household electricity. Therefore, considering l0kV distribution lines in the Pearl River Deltaand lightning accidents, it is of practical engineering significance to study the lightning protectionof the10kV distribution line Pearl River Delta.Firstly, this article has a research on the l0kV distribution line’s basic and operating parametersin the certain area in Pearl River Delta, and builds a model to calculate lightning trip of10kVdistribution line with electric geometry method; Based on the research and the model, consideringlightning location data it analyzes the effect on10kV distribution line which the Ground flashdensity distribution and the Lightning current amplitude probability distribution made in the area.Located on the edge of the Pearl River Delta Plain with mountains in its west and north, the terrainof the region is complex, reflected by the physical quantity called ground inclination. The economyof the region develops rapidly, resulting in the intensive distribution of power transmission lines.This article takes a certain running transmission line as an example, analyzing the impact on10kVdistribution line lightning trip caused by the transmission line’s lightning triggering, which is basedon the changes of lightning flash density and lightning current amplitude probability distributionwithin the scope of the line corridor before and after the tower erection. Besides, withelectromagnetic field theory and electric geometry method, it analyses shielding effect againstovervoltage from direct lightning stroke or induction thunder on10kV distribution line which ismade by towering buildings in the east of the area.Secondly, according to the established model that calculates10kV distribution line lightningtrip rate, this article studies the lightning protection effect under the situation of strengthenedinsulation and unbalanced insulation respectively. Based on the electrical geometry model andmechanism of induced lightning, it discusses arrester’s protection range of both direct and inducedlightning; and also it analyses protection effect of lightning under the situation of differentmounting combinations on the same tower, providing the basis for lightning protection strategy.Finally, with the evaluation results of the10kV distribution line’s lightning performance andeffect of lightning protection with kinds of configuration scheme of lightning protection measures in a certain area of the Pearl River Delta, considering the actual situation of the region, the articleformulates a lightning protection strategy through reinforcing insulation and installing line arresters.
