With the rapid development of global economy, the development of shipping industry makes a spurt of progress. The trend of world fleet is that ship becomes larger and larger. The enhancement of economy of our country and the cooperation with foreign country makes the business volume and scale of shipping and port increase rapidly. In recent years, the cargo throughput of Tianjin port increases nearly20%every year. The cargoes of Tianjin port mainly include bulk cargo, containers, liquid cargo and groceries. The increasing of ship quantity and ship scale will inevitably lead to the increasing risk of port greatly. Port risk mainly includes the collision, stranding, touch rocks, damage by waves, wind, fire, pollution, security events, port management confusion and scheduling errors, navigation facilities abnormally. Much statistical analysis of accidents show that the port and its adjacent waters have become the main area of maritime traffic accident. The accidents bring bigger negative effect to port security, ecological environment and the development of port prosperity. The ship is the main object of port service, all activities of one port must be based on ship safety.Based on the very large bulk cargo ship entering Tianjin port and berthing operation as an example, the paper researches on the ship sailing and berthing simulation using advanced Full mission shiphandling simulator. By combining the practical experience of maritime professional person, the author designed a testing plan with17experiments and employed experienced captain and pilot to maneuver the ship in simulator according the plan. After finishing all the experiments, the experimental data were analyzed in details. Then the paper put forward a more practical proposal for very large cargo ships berthing and de-berthing the port of Tianjin. Hope that the proposal will help majority of the ship’s officers to decrease the risk of navigation in Tianjin harbour and have some contribution for constructing a good order of port navigation.
