Study on discharge capacity plays a very important role in dam safety. Now the measurement of discharge is based on the theoretical calculation or hydraulic model test. The theoretical calculation and model test have certain limitations, the discharge test can measure the real discharge. In order to finish the test safely and efficient, three-dimensional numerical simulations of overflow dam are carried out. The numerical simulations can provide numerical evidence for this test.Computational fluid dynamics software represented by Fluent, with the Characteristics of the most comprehensive and the most widely used, have become the major means of researching flow characteristics of the dam gate,κ-ε Turbulence model and the VOF method are also the most advanced technology on the turbulent free surface flow. Three-dimensional numerical simulations of the Shi Long overflow dam are carried out, in which the finite volume method, RNG κ-ε turbulent model are used. The main work is as the following:1.It briefly describes the purpose and significance of the spillway of numerical simulation, and the computer hydraulic characteristics of spillway gate turbulent numerical simulation turbulence model and VOF method are summed up.2.Computational fluid dynamics are introduced, including the basic governing equation, turbulence model, boundary conditions, the discretization of governing equations and numerical method.3.It mainly explained the Fluent software package and the solving steps of Fluent solver. The triangular sharp-crested weir as an example, a detailed description of the whole process of Fluent numerical simulation is carried out. The results are compared with the theoretical results analysis. They set the stage for the engineering numerical simulation.4.Three-dimensional numerical simulations of the Shi Long dam are carried out with radial gate opening degree of three different reservoir level with the PISO numerical calculation method in Fluent software, in which the QUICK discrete format is used to discrete RNG κ-ε turbulent model governing equation, the VOF method is used to track the water surface profile. As a result, the overflow discharge and the velocity field and pressure field of bulkhead are acquired in all kinds of working conditions, and the flow over spillway discharge form. Compared the numerical simulation results with the theory results, the result is agreement.
