Research Of Natural Waterscape Design In City Parks

Natural waterscape is an indispensable design element in city park space. It is one of the most attractive, impressive elements in landscape design which can embody the park’s individuality prominently. In the face of nowadays rapid urbanization and the boom of natural waterscape design of city parks in the design industry, it is one-sided and unreasonable to conservatively follow the Chinese traditional waterscape design forms and blindly imitate the Western waterscape design. This thesis considered that landscape architecture must respect for nature and status during design work to make the water mantain the development and evolution characteristics of natural water system, Thus, the design would meet the reasonable and balanced relationship between the water landscape and the site environment. Meanwhile, the artistic techniques for waterscape design of Chinese and Western garden should also be drawn and utilized to reproduce the elegant features of natural waterscape. Therefore, it should be possible to create the sustainable and beautiful natural waterscape.This thesis studied the basic concepts of the city parks and natural water bodies, and determined the research object and scope. The research and comparison of natural waterscape artistic features of the most representative Chinese natural landscape garden and English natural scenery garden laid a solid theoretical foundation for this study. Meanwhile, the main scenic elements of city parks’natural waterscape was further analyzed, and the design methodology was implemented to each landscaping element to make the theory guide the practice. A general design principles for practice was finally found in this research. Besides, the general design principles and the design methods of landscape elements configuration was verified through the actual design cases. This research tried to find a scientific and reasonable design methods and principles upon traditional inheritance and experience reference for natural waterscape design in city parks.
