Study On The Design Of Private Art Gallery

This article analyzed existing issues and potential value of old factories, history of both domestic and oversea private owned art galleries and their current conditions through investigating some domestic private art galleries from Beijing and Shanghai. Specific case study was on remnants of Beijing751factories and several more galleries in Beijing, focus on their history and reasons of development, characteristics of spaces and current issues. Concluded theoretical basics and come out with some problems while the transformation process from old factories to private owned galleries was happening. Some old factories are having problems like humdrum in functions, impropriate in spaces expression, lack of lighting, and some conflictions between new and old. Referring to successful examples from overseas like the "Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles" and "Museum of Odyssey"; some domestic samples like" Enjoy museum of art" and "OCT art and design gallery", spatial qualities of private owned galleries had been analyzed, developing trend and spatial requirement had been concluded. Base on the commonality between exhibition space of old factories and private owned galleries, pointing out that rebuilding and reusing could be one of the most possible way to revive old factories, it is a solution and guide for old factories to be reformed to galleries. This time, a self-involved alternation work of old factories is going to be used as a real case, to bring out some recommendations from me, for similar "Industrial architecture to Private owned galleries" alteration works in the future.
