Driving ability is an important standard of vehicle’s quality. As a major part of drive system, suspension performance can directly affect the smoothness, stability and comfort of whole vehicle. Among the suspension’s types, double wishbone independent suspension is widely used, because of the excellent kinematic performance and stable controlling.Double wishbone independent suspension is studied in this paper. Firstly, based on the coordinate transformation theory, the arms’ local moving coordinate system are established. Taking lower arm’s swing angle as the variable, suspension’s mathematical model is built. Then, suspension’s kinematic model is built by CATIA, the theoretical and actual simulate curves of suspension parameters are contrasted. Finally, put forward the optimum design. The main work and procedures of this paper are as followed:(1) The suspension’s structure and types, research status and development tendency are analysed in this paper. The significance and purpose of the research are clarified.(2) The mathematical model of the suspension is built by coordinate transformation theory, and the motorial coordinates of the suspension’s key points are obtained.(3) The suspension’s kinematic model is built and simulated by CATIA. In order to confirm the correctness of the suspension’s mathematical and kinematic models, the actual and theoretical simulate curves of the wheel alignment parameters are contrasted.(4) Analyse the simulate curves of the wheel alignment parameters, and present the optimum design of the original suspension on the basis of the parameters’ simulate result.(5) Simulate and contrast the wheel alignment parameters performance curves of the different designs, then obtain the simulate conclusions of the suspension performance. This paper provides an effective method for the suspension’s kinematic analysis and optimum design, and it also can be used by manufacturers to improve the vehicle’s type. The thesis can put the theoretical study into production practice. Therefore, the paper has some practical value.
