Diatomite is well known as an important nonmetallic natural mineral, having thefollowing features: multi-microporous, strong absorbability, steady performance, lowdensity and environmentally friendly. As a raw material for decoration, diatomite hasthe advantage of thermal insulation, non-combustible, humidity regulation, airpurification, etc. Therefore, exploitation and utilization of diatomite in the field ofbuilding materials have profound significance to promote the development of modernconstruction industry with energy saving and environmental protection.There is plenty of diatomite in China, the total amount of reserve ranks the secondin the world. But the majority has low grade, which generally cannot be fully utilized.So how to utilize these low-grade diatomite resources efficiently would be significantmatter. In this experiment, we’ll take grade II and grade III raw soil as a material tostudy the optimum technology to produce face brick from diatomite. The technicalindexes of products refer to the indexes of similar products of Japanese diatomaceousshale. Based on single factor experiment, we found that the optimum technologyconditions and the intensity and moisture adsorption/desorption performance of facebrick prepares are equal to or a little higher than those of Japanese diatomaceous shaleface brick. In addition, it has special functionality of photo catalysis and the anionreleasing. This experiment uses the waterless method to grind the diatomite rawbetonies to about15μm, inspecting the different watering quantity, the pressure, toguarantee presses factors and so on time, cementing agent type and amount used to theproduct quality influence. Through suppressed formation method, optimum processconditions prepared by brick can be determined. The results show that the water contentin the raw materials10%,1%of the amount of binder, molding pressure of2.5MPa, theholding time of25s can be made ideal conditions for brick, The ideal unfired brickunder the different roasting temperature, the roasting time burns obtains thediatomaceous earth element face brick.
