The expansion joints of highway bridge is the key problem of bridge construction and maintenance.While the bridges is long-term exposed to air and the environment is bad. The expansion joints are apt to be damaged but difficult to be repaired.If there is a slight defects or insufficiency in design or construction, it would cause its early destruction; And the destruction may cause vehicle impact, worsen traffic condition, sharply reduce service life.How to evaluate and how to maintenance are the urgent problems we need to solveBased on the structure characteristics and working principle, the domestic bridge joints are divided into five types, namely the special-shaped steel single seam type, module type, the comb tenoning plate, rubber type and the other, and for each type of performance characteristics is introduced in this paper;After the investigation and analysis of the damage of the highway bridge in service and summing the amount of expansion joints in current route, a comprehensive comparison is made by the form of pictures and records;Further more, types of joint damages are listed,which lead to the causes and lay the foundation for the driving safety;After investigation in the form of questionnaire of asking for advice of the bridge experts, analytic hierarchy process, clustering analysis and mathematical method are applied to calculate and determine the three popular the weights of influence of joints, and finally comprehensive evaluation formula and evaluation method are proposed.While qualitative and quantitative methods of different types of highway bridge retractile devices are studied; and the risk level analysis and harmfulness evaluation method, safety assessment method to joints damage are analyzed, risk classification standard and accepted criterion are determined.Finally the strategies and measures to avoid risk are put forward, and the risk factors for management are effectively controlled, to guide maintenance, and the measures to guarantee the safety of highway bridge are proposed with minimum cost to gain maximum security.
