Based on the needs of highway construction used corrugated steel pipe culvert,according to practical projects, fully considered the structural characteristics ofcorrugated steel pipe culvert in the subgrade of highway. Numerical simulation wasbeen used, models of corrugated steel pipe culvert were set up, force deformationcharacteristic and design and calculated method for corrugated steel pipe culvert wereresearched. The main results were shown as the following:(1)When the pipe diameter is smaller, the earth pressure on the culvert crownis increasing. Number one point (the culvert crown) is the point of the maximumstresses. When the pipe diameter is bigger, the deformation of vertical and horizontaldirections is increasing. The phenomenon of earth pressure concentration on thecorrugated steel pipe culvert crown had been reduced when the pipe diameter wasmore then2.0m under the high fill. The earth pressure on the culvert crown changedgreatly when the soil modulus varied. The vehicle load could be ignored when the fillheight was more than5m.(2)The numerical results with the indoor model test and field test results wascompared, the different of each test and the applicability of the numerical results wasanalyzed, it provided theoretical basis for establish and practice of testing program.(3)The design calculation methods of the corrugated steel pipe culvert and itsdesign technical parameters which could be used as reference in actual were offered.The technical defects which were caused by single size of the existing corrugatedsteel pipe culverts were overcome.The research results of this paper, on the one hand, force deformationcharacteristic of corrugated steel pipe culvert in highway engineering were known,and provided theoretical basis for the structural application. On the other hand, itprovides scientific basis to the design and calculated of corrugated steel pipe culvert,and it has important engineering value.
