Reinforced concrete arch bridge is widely used in the highway bridges in China, reinforcedconcrete arch bridge holds a large proportion especially in the used bridge. The existingbearing capacity evaluation method for the bridge can not analyze the bearing capacity ofreinforced concrete arch bridge accurate. So the study is very necessary for the evaluationmethod of the existing concrete arch bridge.This paper is a part of project of the technology projects for western traffic construction.Updating the initial finite element model of reinforced concrete arch bridge based on practicaltest result. The finite element model that it can reflect the actual conditions of the existingbridge is established. It can evaluate the bearing capacity of existing concrete arch bridge.This paper researches the theory and application of the finite element model modificationtechnology based on the tests. It conducts calculation and analysis as follows:(1) Survey the defect of existing concrete arch bridge; obtain the main defect that affectedthe bearing capacity. Model was updated because the defect was considered on the initialfinite element model.(2) Through the bridge appearance test and load test, we can obtain test results such asdisplacement, frequency that they reflect the working state of bridge. Test results andcalculation results are compared and analyzed. The parameters affected the structure of themechanical properties are selected for sensitivity analysis, the more sensitive the better. Theobjective function is established though the calculated value and measured. Reflect therelative importance of each parameter by introducing the weighted factor. The finite elementmodel that it can reflect the actual conditions of the existing bridge is obtained thoughupdating the finite element model many times.(3) Through the indoor model test and practical application, the initial finite element modelis updates used optimization toolbox of MATLAB. The calculation results of the finiteelement model after updating and test the results are coincided. So the finite element model ofupdating technology based on the test results is correct.(4) It can evaluate the bearing capacity of existing concrete arch bridge based on the finiteelement model after updating.
