Design Of Public Space Near The Main Entrance In The Facilities For The Elderly

The public space near the main entrance is the core area of facilities for the elderly,apart from organizing space and mixed traffic, it contains a number of differentfunctions with the relative concentration of various groups of people. However, publicspace near the main entrance has received little attention during the architecture designof facilities for the elderly in the past. In fact, its design quality will largely affect theuse of other space in the facilities, the efficiency of management and service, the spatialperception of the elderly and their feelings of comfort and convenience during theprocess of activities in the space near the main entrance.In connection with the increasing trend of China’s aging population and growingdemand for the facilities for the elderly, this paper through information collection froma large number of facilities’ public space near the main entrance and the feelings of theelderly who live in the facilities, in-depth survey of individual facility, combined withthe analysis of foreign facilities’ architectural design theory and space and functions’organization methods of the public space near the main entrance, summarizes the maindesign principles of public space near the main entrance in space layout, functional parts,materials and furniture’ selection, physical environment, vision and psychology. Thenachieve the graduation design according to the design principles.The purpose of the research and practice is to provide references for the design ofpublic space near the main entrance and promote the research of other functional spacein the facilities and in-depth design methods’ summary in different aspects. And thenperfect the architecture design theoretical system of the facilities for the elderly, in orderto improve the living quality of the elderly.
