There is a wide range of variation of the settings, such as various type of physical elevation appearance, numerous types of private courtyards plants species in natural settings, wide range of application depending on the desired function, longer display season with less maintenance required and etc. A reference model has been provided about how to create a desirably private courtyard borders. With the supporting fact of one year site surveying, an intuitive and reasonably strategy is worked out to serve as a guideline.The contents of this research are as below:First of all, a study of the foreign and local private courtyard border history is carried out to summarize the characteristic, function and categorization of modern private courtyard border which in turn can be used to forecast the prospect of private courtyard border in the local context.Secondly, the application of private courtyard borders in foreign context is analyzed by adopting English Nottingham villa and New Zealand cottage as reference model.
