As the power electronic converter is a major part of power electronics, theresearch and development of efficient and practical converters is a global hotpoint nowadays. Combined with switch-capacitor network, two novel types ofconverter are presented in this paper, one of which is a novel boost converterwhile the other is a novel three-level boost inverter. These two converters have asimple and feasible structure with easy control strategy and good performance.Firstly, the novel boost converter is introduced in this paper, with itsoperating principles carefully analyzed, the operating characteristics and thecircuit parameters estimated in a preliminary stage. The simulation of itstopology is executed in MATLAB, which has got an ideal result, and a prototypebased on this topology has then been built, which successfully proves itsfeasibility. The superiority of this design is showed by comparison with otherboost converters.This paper then presents a novel three-level boost inverter, with its operatingprinciples and operating characteristics carefully analyzed. The simulation of itstopology is executed in MATLAB, which has got an ideal result, and a prototypebased on this topology has then been built, which successfully proves itsfeasibility. The design has an obvious boost effect,The superiority of this design is showed by comparison with other boostconverters and effectively solves the problem of capacitor voltage imbalancehappened in conventional three-level inverters, which has better prospect inapplication.At the end of this paper, the future research work for the combination of the switch-capacitor network and the power electronic converter is proposed todemonstrate their bright prospect.
