With the development of modern science and technology, and the increase ofspace exploration activities, people have more requirements in the functionality,accuracy, stability, and reliability of the spacecraft mechanism. Some currentspacecraft mechanisms have gradually not met the requirements of the people. In thisbackground, this thesis presents a novel Joint Deployment Mechanism (JDM)oriented to solar panels. This mechanism is designed based on the principle ofinteraction between electromagnet and permanent magnet. In this thesis, our researchfocuses on the basic theory, structural design and optimum analysis, experiments andcontrol system of the JDM. The main contents of the whole thesis are summarized asfollows:a) We introduce the global design and drive mechanism of the Drive Joint which isthe key component of JDM, and establish the mathematical model. The FEAresults calculated by Ansoft Maxwell prove the feasibility of the global design.Based on the theory of magnetic circuit, the approximate electromagnetic toquemodel and the dynamic model of the Drive Joint have been established.b) We introduce the specific design process of the Drive Joint and the experimentaltests of the prototype. The1stprototype has been designed and realized. Aftertesting and structure improvement, the prototype of the Drive Joint has beenrealized. The experimental results prove that the prototype have some goodproperties such as large starting torque, smooth process torque and variabletorsion stiffness.c) We introduce modal analysis of the solar panels based on the JDM by FEA. The relationship between torsion stiffness of the joint and the modal of the wholesolar panels has been studied. The FEA results show that the torsion stiffnesshas big impact on the modal frequency. The dynamic characteristic of the wholesolar panels can be adjusted though the JDM.d) We introduce the control system of the JDM, build the experimental testplatform, and test its performance. The simulation and test research of thesystem based on open loop control, closed loop control and vibration controlhave been carried out respectively. The experimental results prove that the JDMhas fulfilled its anticipated functions.
