Abstract/Summary:
The aging of world population is an important task that attracts great attention fromevery country in the world. According to the statistical result and prediction of the WorldBank, now the senior population in China accounts for20%of the senior population of thewhole world and the proportion will continue to rise at2030. The statistical data shows thatChina is entering an aging society with an increasing speed. With the increase of age, human’s biological, psychological and behavioral features willchange to follow the natural law. Together with the increasingly higher rate of agingpopulation in the population base, this change has resulted in profound and lasting influencein the design of modern residential buildings. Besides, from the perspective of humanisticcare, it is not only the duty of the whole society but also the responsibility of the architecturaldesigners to provide senior citizens the abode with more reasonable functions and morecomfortable environment.Based on the background mentioned above, this research began its study. Therelationship between human beings and the architecture is the interaction of the subject andthe object. Human behaviors determine the nature of architecture and architecture influencespeople’s living and behavioral styles through substantive language. However, thefundamental significance of the presence of architecture is to serve people. Therefore, thisthesis begins with an analysis of senior citizens’ biological, psychological and behavioralfeatures and continues to get a series of factors influencing the design of residential buildingsthrough the analysis. How can architecture satisfy the special needs of senior citizens? With this question, theauthor has found that different endowment patterns can generate different design patterns ofproper aging of buildings through the study of endowment patterns and current dwellingcondition of senior citizens home and abroad. Based on the analysis of current endowmentpatterns in our country and the questionnaire research of the current dwelling condition ofsenior citizens in Xi’an, several design patterns of residential buildings under differentendowment patterns are finally obtained.Through the study of proper aging of buildings under the background of the agingsociety, the thesis intends to improve the dwelling condition of senior citizens in China andenable architecture to better service people. The author also hopes that this study cancontribute to the perfection of China’s residential building system so as to promote the socialharmony.
