Soft soil is widely distributed in China. It has been the focus of the survey and designdepartment because of poor engineering properties such as thixotropic and rheologicalbehaviour. The survey technology of marine soft soil has been involved in severalspecification. However, there is no clear and special provisions about the survey technologyof soft soil ground in the area of inland rivers and lakes. The empirical relationship betweenthe survey technology and indicators of the soft soil ground in the area of inland rivers andlakes was systemically studied. This type of soft soil engineering properties was concluded onthe basis of comprehensive analysis of the marine soft soil survey technology in this paper. The main results were concluded as follows:1.The soft soil engineering properties of inland rivers and lakes was studied, and thevariability of indoor and in-situ test results were statistical analyzed. Then the surveytechnology was put forward to adapt to this type of soft soil ground.2.The principle of division of soil was raised to distinguish soil types by cone penetrationtest indicators in the area of inland rivers and lakes, and the empirical formula of Conepenetration was established to this type of soft soil combining with existing cone penetrationexperience.3.The relationship between the degree of disturbance and strength was studied on theproblem of inevitable disturbance for sampling; the relationship expression between them wasgiven; the strength of disturbed soil samples could restore the in situ strength according to theexpression.4.The variation and correlations of physical and mechanical indexes of the soft soil in thearea of inland rivers and lakes was statistical analyzed; the empirical formula was made toadapt to physical and mechanical indexes of the soft soil; this formula are available for theapplication of similar soil geotechnical investigation.
