Cone Penetration Test(CPT)has speed quick,data continuous,emersion good,operation convenience etc.advantage.As an important in-situ soil testing method,CPT has been accepted by more and more geotechnical engineers.This paper first analyzes and introduces the development, present condition and theories foundation of CPT. Combine the practice in liaoning to explore the application of CPT.This paper research work and result as follows:1. Combine the project experience of soft soil area in Liaoning,analysising the reliability and economical of Cone Penetration Test in evaluation Physical mechanical properties of soil.2. Analyze the characteristics of CPT curves of the subsoils with different origin periods in Liaoning-dandong soft soil area. Verify the naming of subsoils by CPT parameters.3. Verify the conversion formulas of the specific penetration resistance and cone tip resistance.4. Correlation analysis of CPT parameters and physical and mechanical indexes of subsoils, empirical formulas research between CPT parameters and subsoil specific weight,modulus of viscosity and Undrained shear modulus.5. Summary the foundation soil of bearing capacity, compr modulus(Es)related formula,after pass this empirical formula calculation, get the strength parameter of with distortion parameters to match more actual circumstance.Based on the above mentioned analysis and study, the paper summarizes the characteristics of CPT curves of the subsoils with different origin periods in liaoning soft soil area, which can provide regional experiences for CPT soil classification and layer division and suggests a conversion formula for the specific penetration resistance and cone tip resistance;establishes the correlative formulas between the cone tip resistance qc and subsoil specific weightγ, modulus of compressibility Es, modulus of viscosity and Undrained shear modulus.These formulas have been verified in actual engineering projects and have proved rational and applicable.
