Although highway construction starts late in China,it develops rapidly.To the end of2011highway mileage in our country has reached more than85000kilometers which leaps tothe second place of the world.Many highways have to be built on the inland rivers of soft soilsubgrade by geographical limitations.Due to the characters of soft soil are very complex,theconfirm of soil properties parameters is rather difficult,also the factors of post-constructionsettlement are huge,and all the factors are changing all the time,effective treatment of softsoil is becoming hot and difficulty point of the embankment engineering research in recentyears.Post-construction settlement is the key factor of the soft soil foundation embankmentengineering.It is not only directly effects the project cost,and involves maintenance,drivingsafety and a series of problems in the future.Therefore,treatment methods of soft ground andforecasts of embankment settlement has important theoretical and practical significance forthe highway traffic construction in our country.This paper is on the background of the soft soil ground in the area of inland rivers andlakes that treat with sand well preloading in HeNan Jiaozuo-Gongyi Yellow River bridgeattachment engineering of the actual project.1.Drilling sampling of the several roads which were built in the inland rivers and lakeson soft ground,Analysised the deformation index and intensity index variability of the softsoil ground in the area of inland rivers and lakes;2.Explore overload preloading construction process stability and deformation controlproblem.The deformation behaviour of soft soil ground was analysed.The stability controlmethods that S_t-δ_h method,inflection piont method,the deformation-acceleration method andthe settlement-acceleration method were discussed.3.These methods were validated by the in-situ data of the project.Several familiar curveswhich could prognosticate the settlement of the soft soil ground in the area of inland riversand lakes were analysed.The calculation method of corresponding parameter were given,Combination of engineering test data to verify the usefulness of the soft soil ground in thearea of inland rivers and lakes. 4.The effect of surcharge preloading reduce post-construction settlement was analysed intheory.The design method of the soft soil ground in the area of inland rivers and lakessurcharge preloading was given.Practical way of the determination of pre-compression periodwas discussed and some examples were given.
