The optimal operation of hydropower stations can create more social and economicbenefits. But now the optimization scheduling systems are not practical enough because ofthe hydropower system’s complexity and limited by the current technology of computer.Based on the project “Generation Scheduling System Development for HydropowerStations on Li River Basin”, the practicality of the system is fully considered, the researchwork mainly includes the following aspects:(1) This paper proposes a model of minimum luffing of water level. This model issuitable for the day-controlled hydropower station on the condition of its upstream stationis taking part in peak adjustment and must consider the shipping requirement. TakeGezhouba hydropower station for example, use the application of the dynamicprogramming method to get the optimal operation, the result shows that using the modelof minimum luffing of water level although lose part of generating capacity, but the luffingof water level of the front of the dam is very small, the output process smoothly, suitablefor operation requirements.(2) This paper proposes a forest structure to describe the topological structure of thehydropower stations, each tree of the forest stands for a river which has no hydrauliccontact with other rivers; each node of the tree stands for a hydropower station, the nodestores the reference of its own upstream and downstream stations. The description waymeets the actual needs, and it has simple expression, easy to maintenance, easy to expand, etc advantages. This paper also provides a simplified non-recursion method to traversalthe forest of the hydropower stations.(3) At last, this paper take the generation scheduling system development forhydropower stations on Li river basin for example, introduces the practical optimizationscheduling system’s overall structure design, function module design, database design andrelated works, summarizes the optimization scheduling system’s common use of the basicalgorithm and models.
