Visual simulation of hydraulic engineering project construction realisticallyshows the dynamic construction process in the form of animation, the statistics andinformations generated in the simulation are transforming in the way of graphicsinstead of traditional method of words or tables. This technique helps the engineers tounderstand the design intention and grasp construction information efficiently. For therapidly development in hydraulic engineering, the significance of visual simulation isgetting more distinct as the appearance of more engineering projects with larger scaleand greater difficulty. Research on visual simulation technique is a hotspot at homeand abroad currently and there exists numbers of simulation method. In this paper, avisual simulation system of hydraulic engineering based on BIM (BuildingInformation Modeling)is developed which used the Navisworks as develop platformand demonstrated with the Guanyinyan hydropower station construction visualsimulation.The content of this study is as follow:1、Introducing BIM in several aspects which include the definition of BIM, thebackground of BIM and applications of BIM at home and abroad. A brief introduce ofproducts of BIM is given in this paper.2、The system uses Navisworks as the develop platform. The feasibility ofrealization of visual simulation system is discussed according to investigating thesoftware features and statistics framework of Navisworks.3、Studying on3D visual simulation modeling method of hydraulic structures,creating the digital models of all structures that the project involves in a reasonableway. Hence, conducting the construction processes in Navisworks platform so as torealize the detection and analysis of information in visual simulation system.4、Conducting the visual dynamic simulation system of hydraulic engineeringconstruction according to the development of Navisworks based on.NET API. Thefeasibility and efficiency of system is demonstrated by application in visualsimulation of Guanyinyan hydropower station.
