"Nimitz" class aircraft carriers are the most advanced aircraft carrier in the world, withvarious and large number of carrier-based aircraft aboard. This paper cited the "Nimitz" classaircraft carriers as example, to research the automatic layout method of the aircraft.Automatic layout method of the aircraft means on the given deck of the aircraft carrier, tolayout a number of the same type or different types of aircraft without overlap as much aspossible, and to achieve the goals of maximum utilization of deck. This problem is not onlyimportant to the aircraft carrier, but also can be widely used in the clothing, leather and glassprocessing industry etc., it is a key part of automated process in the manufacturing industry.According to the key problems and difficulties existed in automatic layout problem, thethesis presented a fundamental researching and proposed corresponding algorithms andresolutions. The main research objects of the automatic layout problem include no fitpolygon algorithm, placement policy of aircraft and the application of genetic algorithmoptimization on nesting problem. Detailed research achievements are listed below:Firstly, no fit polygon(NFP) algorithm: this thesis presented a new fast NFP algorithm,that converted the problem of collision between two polygons to the calculation of trace linesegment for vertexes and edges, and it can deal with the special conditions such as innercavity holes,inner contacting NFP,island and so on.Secondly, placement policy: this thesis using a new piece placement policy which basedon lowest center of gravity rule, with gravity center of aircraft as the reference point, thegravity center NFP can be calculated, From all the gravity center NFPs which caused bydifferent rotation, the lowest gravity center can be found.Thirdly, genetic algorithm optimization: according to the specialty of automatic layoutalgorithm, this thesis researched the genetic algorithm, and achieved effective layout pattern.Finally, in order to improve the validity of nesting on aircraft, in this paper, we designedthe system of automatic layout method of the aircraft and realized it.
