Diesel engines are used as the main engine on most ships. and also occupies dominantstatus in the ship power. To ensure the normal operation of diesel engine is crucial. In a hightemperature environment the excessively high density of the oil mist will cause the dieselengine crank case to explode, which will create the economic loss and the personal injuries. Sothat, It is an important index for the safety of the diesel engine, which is the oil mist density ofthe diesel engine. In this paper, According to the development trend of the foreign diesel engine oil mistdetector, a design of the oil mist density detector based on the Light Scattering was proposed. The corresponding research was made. In this paper the hardware and software designs ofcontrol section were finished, and functionality experiment confirmation was carried out.The following work was made in this paper:Discusses the backgroundand research significance of the subject, describes the main technical methods of oilmist density’s measurement and highlight the plight of oil mist density detector’sdevelopment of domestic and foreign based on the light scattering method;Light scattering theory is discussed in detail. Focus is fixed on numerical analysis of thephysical meaning of Mie scattering and solving parameters and its basic formula for Miescattering theory is given, establishing the theoretical basis that Mie scattering is used indetecting oil mist density of crankcase;Finishes collecting the photoelectric signal of oil mistdetector and designing software and hardware, and because of the effect of the ambienttemperature on the oil mist detector, I have also designed a temperature compensating device, designed the sensor prototype to ensure the normal work of the sensor in high temperatureenvironment; The related functional experiments are made after completing the design, andthe experiment results meet the desired requirements.
