Steel structures have been applied in actual engineering wildly due to its many kindsof merits, such as light weight, high strength, good ductility, good seismic behavior, bigspan is available and it is easy to assemble. Beam-column connections are the mostimportant part in the design of high-rise steel structures and the design of the joints have agreat impact on the strength, rigidity and stability of steel structures. In traditional steelframe design, the behavior of beam-column connections is treated as either pinned or rigidjoints entity. But both of the joints got some disadvantages, rigid joint has a poorperformance of ductility and larger displacement of hinge joint will be created under stress.Semi-rigid connection is a new type of connection which can ensure both the strength and agood ductility performance of steel structures.Semi-rigid connection is a type of connection which uses the soldering and highstrength bolt to connect the beams and columns at present. Steel structures with thesemi-rigid connection have a good seismic performance. The steel structure design andconstruction basis can be drawn from the study of semi-rigid connection and the currentcode of steel structure design can also consummated by it.This paper adopts ABAQUS finite element analysis software to study themechanical properties of the joints with outer ring stiffeners under monotonic load andthe results have been verified by the experimental results. Some geometric parametersare used in the paper, such as the flange width and thickness of beams, the web heightand web thickness of beams, the wall thickness of columns, the height of outer ring. Theinfluence curve of the connection’s bearing capacity and rigidity can be drawn from thevariation of impact parameters which have an impact on the ductility, bearing capacityand rigidity of the connections. The deformations of the connection with outer ringstiffeners which formed by monotonic load include the distortion of columns, thedistortions of columns and the shear deformation of node domain. The impact of jointswith outer ring stiffeners due to the shearing deformation of node domain with thechanges of single parameter is analyzed. The computing formulas of bearing capacity andrigidity are raised and the confidence coefficients of the formulas are analyzed. From the research results, the flange width and thickness of beam, the wed thicknessof beam and the height of outer ring all have an impact on the capacity, rigidity, ductility, stress cloud and the shearing deformation of node domain. The wed thickness is not themain parameter which influences the mechanical property of connections. To theconnections, the confidence interval is [0.75,1.25] of yield capacity;[0.7,1.3] ofultimate capacity and the confidence coefficient of which is95%. The confidenceinterval is [0.6,1.4] of initial rigidity;[0.85,1.15] of rigidity after yielding and thecoefficients confidence of which is95%. In order to perform an easy calculation, thecomputing formulas adopt power function form to provide a reference for the calculationformulas in the design of the semi-rigid joints.
