With the rapid development of national economy, the transportation industry hasachieved remarkable results, but traffic and axial load increasing, make the asphalt pavementappeared early damage phenomenon. This makes it a primary duty for researchers in highwayengineering to develop performance enhanced asphalt mixtures. Although the asphaltpavement has the particular superiority and has a very important status in the pavement, infact there are many questions of the skills and quality in acting, for example, the forepart strictdisrepair, short life-span, too low surface performance, rutting and critical cracks, which putsforward to austere challenge to pavement researchers. In order to settle these existentproblems in the asphalt pavement, from the1950s new high tensile strength, high modulusreinforcing fiber successful application in cement concrete and light structure, many country’sresearchers have performed a great number of works, and gained many harvests. It is one ofthe effective ways to put fibers into the common asphalt mixture. In this paper, based on the analysis of the mechanism of fiber, combined with theMarshall and road performance tests of the chopped basalt fiber asphalt mixture, we studiesmany aspects of the performance of the chopped basalt fiber asphalt mixture, it provides atheoretical basis and technical guidance for application of the chopped basalt fiber asphaltmixture in the Asphalt Pavement Engineering. The main contents include:1Based on the Marshall test to determine the asphalt concrete mixture (AC-13)non-doped fiber and fiber content:0.1%,0.3%,0.5%of the optimum asphalt ratio. In therutting test basis, determine the best fiber content. In the rutting test and on the basis of thelow-temperature bend test to determine the best length of basalt fiber.2It can improve all aspects performance of the pavement to add chopped basalt fiber tothe asphalt concrete mixture, by contrasting the performance of the road which it doped thebasalt fiber and it did not doped.3ON the basis of the Marshall test, it determined the fiber content of the Stone MasticAsphalt (SMA-13) that the lignin fiber’s is0.3percent and the basalt fiber’s is0.4percent.4It proves that it is viable to add basalt fiber to the Stone Mastic Asphalt mixture, bycontrasting the road performance of all aspects of the SMA which is added to two differentkinds of fibers.
